I can say so cause I found it to be true It’s best to be off with your old love Before you’re on with the new Yes it is Yes it is Yes it is, ahhh Yes it is I can say so cause I found it to be true It’s best to be off with your old love Before you’re on with the new Is it true you laugh so long Crying somewhere all alone Went and found somebody new When you found she was the one for you You called me yesterday and got no reply It’s true I left her alone Say you didn’t even telephone Went and found somebody new Don’t know what I’m gonna do I called her yesterday and got no reply Yes it is Yes it is Yes it is, ahhh Yes it is I can say so cause I found it to be true It’s best to be off with your old love Before you’re on with the new Yes it is Yes it is Yes it is, ahhh Yes it is I can say so cause I found it to be true

Lend a helping hand to me and I’ll be forever grateful Things haven’t been so good with me and I feel so resentful Hope no longer spreads it’s wing To lift me thru today Belief only comforts the fool And carries him away Lend a helping hand to me and I’ll be forever grateful I’ve been lying to myself and I feel so deceitful Chances but another sad expression Which I often use Fate is neither here nor there And luck is but a poor excuse Lend a helping hand to me and I’ll be forever grateful Give your garden shed to me I so want to be peaceful Things haven’t been too good to me And I’ve been lying to myself Hope no longer spreads it’s wings And carries me away

I stayed out late last night I was walking the streets all alone All the stars where shining bright I just hung my head and I just moaned But it’s all over now I decided as the morning came How could I take you back When you brought me so much shame How could anyone play a trick like that On someone they’d supposed to love? I trusted that from the day we met I would be the only one But I found out about you You had been bringing your friends Around to my house After they’ve had you on my couch You know they all left by the back door I stayed out late last night I woke up tonight at my friends When they tried to question me I didn’t try to pretend I said, how can anyone play a trick like that on someone they’re supposed to love? I trusted that from the day we met I would be the only one But I found out about you You had been bringing your friends around to my house After they had you on my couch You know they all left by the back door I stayed out late last night I stayed out late last night I walked the street alone

Don’t you ever think I cry Well I do every night At least once or twice, yes I do Every kiss I have to steal While you laugh at me cuz you Don’t think I’m real, yes you do And while my lonely night crawls by Don’t you ever think I cry It won’t be long before I lose control Don’t you know that you’re bringing me down You got me running all over the place I’m cryin’ boooo Must I tell you till I’m blue in the face Don’t you ever think I cry Well I do every night At least once or twice, yes I do Don’t you know that you’re bringing me down You got me running all over the place I’m cryin’ boooo Must I tell you till I’m blue in the face Don’t you ever think I cry Don’t you ever think I cry Don’t you ever think I cry

If I’d have known what would happen I would’ve stayed in bed But you know how it is when you get something in your head If anyone calls, say I’m dead I should’ve cried instead of smiling all day long But you know how it is when you’re young and so headstrong, And you jump right in headlong You don’t care Half baked I wasn’t ready but I couldn’t wait Half baked I wasn’t ready but I couldn’t wait I know now I was half baked I don’t belong to no one Though you’re the one I said I loved I want to look at everyone But heaven’s above You’re the one I said I loved I loved Listen... Half baked I wasn’t ready but I couldn’t wait Half baked I wasn’t ready but I couldn’t wait I know now I was half baked Half baked I wasn’t ready but I couldn’t wait Half baked I wasn’t ready but I couldn’t wait I know now I was half baked

Don’t you do I beg of you The things you mean to do Cuz if you do and see it through Then you’ll break my heart in two You won’t lose your tears of love And you won’t lose your pain If you see me from your window Broken in the rain Broken in the rain My misery, my misery Now you won’t leave me alone My misery, my misery With your heart of stone Don’t you do I beg of you The things you mean to do Cuz if you do and see it through You know you’ll break my heart in two You’ll break my heart in two

Judas Iscariot Blow me his chariot Mad Jack gave me a loan Somewhere along some road to you I stop Baby I blew mad Jacks loan Don’t tell mad Jack He’ll want his money back It’s only for you he obliged Get on the tele phone Thank him for his loan And blow the big gloves mind Mad Jack Judas wants you To give your money to me That’s right, that’s me That’s right, that’s right that’s me Someday soon I’ll get something going My luck must change some time Look at Mad Jack, John’s his name but they call him Jack He hasn’t got a brain in his mind Come on over to my place Mad Jack Let’s play cards for a while I got a red button underneath my table Man I cheat, because that’s my line Mad Jack Judas wants you To give your money to me That’s right, that’s me That’s right, that’s right that’s me Mad Jack Judas wants you To give your money to me Mad Jack Judas wants you To give your money to me Judas Iscariot Blow me his chariot Mad Jack gave me a loan Somewhere along some road to you I stop Baby I blew mad Jacks loan Don’t tell mad Jack He’ll want his money back It’s only for you he obliged Get on the tele phone Thank him for his loan And blow the big gloves mind Mad Jack Judas wants you To give your money to me That’s right, that’s me That’s right, that’s right that’s me

Baby walk out with your darling man And hold the lovely day In the palm of your hand I’m getting tired of sleeping And I’m frightened of my dreams But there’s nothing really so wrong that the sunshine won’t make good for me Baby walk out with your darling man And hold the lovely day In the palm of your hand You had lovely yellow hair But now it’s dulled to gold So baby walk out with your darling man And hold the lovely day In the palm of your hand There’s so many things that I could’ve done They seemed so simple I just pass them by I do so many things that I know to be wrong but I forgotten how to cry You were a lovely country soul Brought up in the sun And all you’ve had since you’ve Been with me Has been a window to look out from Baby walk out with your darling man And hold the lovely day In the palm of your hand You had lovely yellow hair But now it’s dulled to gold So baby walk out with your darling man And hold the lovely day In the palm of your hand Walk out with your darling man Walk out with your darling man Walk out with your darling man

Could be in Algeria, Ethiopia or Spain Could be in Mongolia or in a Japanese jail Could be somewhere near you’re home or Baghdad in Iraq You better have something to say for yourself when I cross your path You could be in a hamlet or on the Boodjidup bridge Climbing up the dark side of an Egyptian pyramid And while you’re thinking this could be one place the Hunts just won’t attack You better be thinking of something to say for yourself when I cross your path She was only playing girls games And you played a part her bird brain With some money that you found In a wage packet on the ground That you picked up without even looking around Could be in Jack Demsey’s, the Manasin Mall and Even Through A good old riders you see in the night that I catch up to you And while you’re lying prostrate on second avenue You may come round to believing said the things you just don’t do Could be in Algeria, Ethiopia or Spain Could be in Mongolia or in a Japanese jail Could be somewhere near you’re home or Bagdad in Iraq You better have something to say for yourself when I cross your path You better have something to say for yourself when I cross your path

Loving you is all I do And I will always Send your poems Wrapped in a parcel for me tonight Silently, the dark blue clouds Go drifting, always changing And they don’t give me time To find your face Sit beside me at the table Staring round the room No-one knows more than you When something’s yours Eventually, you’ll go, I know To someone else’s table Wearing sword-white gloves On snow-white hands She left her key underneath the vase on the table So I won’t sleep tonight in case she comes home She left her key underneath the vase on the table So I won’t sleep tonight in case she comes home Loving you is all I do And I will always Send your poems Wrapped in a parcel, for me tonight Silently, the dark blue clouds Go drifting, always changing And they don’t give me time To find your face She left her key underneath the vase on the table So I won’t sleep tonight in case she comes home She left her key underneath the vase on the table So I won’t sleep tonight in case she comes home Loving you is all I do And I will always Send your poems Wrapped in a parcel for me tonight Silently, the dark blue clouds go drifting, always changing And they don’t give me time to find your face

about

Jimmy Campbell should be a name recognized alongside the greatest poets and songwriters to ever emerge from England. The real son of Anastasia. Campbell was spun out of the same mystical essence that created Lennon and McCartney and his song writing is on par with the
Liverpool legends. Jimmy was far too humble for such a comparison and would have told me to knock it off! (Jimmy was a huge Lennon fan). Like most perfectionists, he was never happy with any of his finished recordings and would always comment that he could have got it better.

Gone now but never forgotten, Jimmy’s magic continues to shine around the globe as more and more musicians pick up on his often-vulnerable confessions. His cannon has been praised by diverse musicians and bands from Joey Ramone to The Black Keys. Jimmy’s work is just as diverse, producing everything from gorgeous gleaming Beatlesque power pop rockers to introspective tender acoustic jewels that will make the hair on your arms tingle.

Too many times Jimmy’s name will be followed by empty praises of “what could have been,” or “tremendous commercial potential.” Jimmy was rich with close friends and fellow Merseyside musicians who praised his abilities from the very beginning until the end. Jimmy’s songs could paint an often-melancholy picture, but Jimmy was never that man. Jimmy was a craftsman, and his acoustic guitar was his paintbrush and the vinyl his canvas. A true modern-day Michelangelo.

This new collection would make Jimmy break a smile because each artist has chosen a track composed by Jimmy that means so much to them and brings them joy. Each artist has put their heart into the music, and they had fun (remember when music was fun?). There is no doubt that some younger musicians will find this collection and become inspired by the songs with no idea who Jimmy Campbell is. I say “is,” as through the spirit of recorded music he still lives and can never really die. These powerful renditions will only inspire others to investigate the original recordings and be taken on a magical journey that starts in Kirkby and ends in Mersey.

What this lock downed world needs right now is the joy of music – so crank it up and convert your neighbor to the joyous music of Jimmy Campbell.

This album is dedicated to J.C.
